Welcome to our THINGS TO DO IN Cabanas and the Eastern Algarve (updated March 2009). Although we will be delighted to hear from you should you wish to rent our apartment, we hope this site will also be of interest to anyone visiting this part of Portugal. In Cabanas itself it is possible to swim, sail, water-ski, sunbathe, cycle, picnic,go walking, beachcombing, horseriding, shopping, eating, drinking or surfing the net although not all of these things are readily available at all times to short-stay visitors (but most of them are). You can also visit Spain, Tavira, Faro and many places of interest in the area; take a boat trip or drive up the Guadiana and eat lampreys in Alcoutim. There are numerous restaurants and inummerable bars and cafés within walking distance and nightclubs and floor-shows and casinos within a short drive. Oh dear, I forgot the GOLF!, if you've nothing better to do there are 3 or 4 golf-courses within easy reach, the nearest being Benamor at just over a mile (2km) from the apartment. Buses (choose Origin and Destination from this all-service page and click 'Procurar'), taxis and Trains are all within 10-20 minutes walk and from the rail station at Conçeicão (1km) it is a short journey east to Vila Real do Santo Antonio (for Trains FROM Tavira and Faro) and the ferry every 30 minutes to Ayamonte in Spain or west to Tavira and on to Faro, Lagos or even Lisbon. (Please note these 'html' timetables are for guidance only - check on the Trains link or at the station and/or see the (1Mb) pdf version here for March 2009). You can walk, swim or paddle on either side of the lagoon (town-beach) but boats from the jetty just two minutes walk from the apartment leave for the island every few minutes. The crossing takes two minutes and the walk across the island to the Atlantic beaches a further 4 minutes. Then, if not swimming or sunbathing, you can walk for several miles east or west (the last to the entrance to the lagoon off Tavira). This site contains many internal and external links in-line and we do our best to update it and remedy any errors reported. Please let us know if you experience any difficulties with the site or find any broken links. Images are kept to a minimum and we hope the site will respond rapidly whatever systems and software you are using. | |
